The newly appointed French Ambassador to Ghana, Frédéric Clavier, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor. His visit was to formally introduce himself as the new Head of the French Embassy in Ghana.

Frédéric Clavier, was met by the management of the University including Provosts and some Senior Members of the University. Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed Mr. Frédéric Clavier officially to Ghana and KNUST on behalf of the University.

Professor Ellis stated that KNUST has had a long-standing relationship with the French government and by extension the Embassy. He therefore commended the French Government and the French Embassy for providing financial support for projects and programmes such as   the “Maison Francais” project which is still ongoing.

Others such as the Doctoral College of Mathematics programme for KNUST and other public Universities in Ghana and the establishment of the French Centre of Excellence, which when completed would serve as a French learning centre for Anglophone countries in West Africa and beyond.

Professor Ellis noted that KNUST had a good relationship with Arnaud Dornon, the Immediate Past Head of Cooperation at the French Embassy, and hoped the good relationship between the two institutions would be deepened for the benefit of all.

Frederic Clavier, the newly appointed French Ambassador said it was a privilege for the French people to share and to partner the people of Ghana. He congratulated the VC and the management of `the University for making KNUST a leader in Science and Technology in Africa. He announced plans of cooperation in the area of research promotion through scholarships and partnerships with French Universities in the years ahead.

Mr. Clavier also pledged his support for projects already initiated by his predecessor and to offer assistance to KNUST, in order to promote education in Ghana.
